UFC: Ultimate “Finance” Championship
UFC hosts more than 40 live events annually, mostly sold out around the global arenas. It is broadcasted in over 165 countries and territories, via more than 60 global broadcast partners.
Do you remember the days of watching WWE on television in the morning and all those fighters screaming at each other, fighting, and blood gushing out? Yes, those were the days!
Since then, many fighting championships have come along, and unfortunately, the popularity of WWE has crashed since people discovered that all of it is scripted. But one of them, UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), slowly rose back in 1993. It started off as a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) organization and today has become a global premium sports brand.
Back in the day, it used to be a single-night tournament with skilled fighters competing and showcasing their different martial arts techniques, including jiu-jitsu, karate, kickboxing, and sumo. There were no or very minimum rules in the fights, and basically the fighters could mostly do anything. But now it's not the same.
In 2001, under the leadership of Zuffa, the UFC rebranded itself as an organized, sanctioned and controlled combat sport. In December 2013, UFC launched a digital subscription service, UFC FIGHT PASS, which digitally airs the latest live events, original content, and fight-on demands to their fans.
Let’s look at some stats now! UFC hosts more than 40 live events annually, mostly sold out around the global arenas. It is broadcasted in over 165 countries and territories, via more than 60 global broadcast partners, to more than 1.1 billion TV households worldwide in over 40 different languages. It is the largest Pay-Per-View provider in the world.
In this week’s podcast, Rakshit and Shashank talk about the Ultimate “Finance” Championship. Why finance? Because in today’s sports industry, entertainment and money are a must. You know, not everything is about sports and having fun! Sports and fun are obviously a part of the whole scene.
They discuss the marketing strategy of UFC, their promotion strategy, including collaboration with famous fitness brands, unique introductions and titles, and much more. They are big fans of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor and their martial arts technique.
